Team Fortress 2 Market Guide: Bulk Sell TF2 Cases, Keys and Tools

Open the Team Fortress 2 Multisell builder →

Summary: Team Fortress 2 (Steam app 440) cases, Mann Co. Supply Crate Keys, paints, name tags and other tools are commodity items that can be listed together on Steam's Multisell page. Each sale carries Steam's 5% Steam Transaction Fee plus a 10% Team Fortress 2 fee. Listings can be held for up to 15 days if the account hasn't had the Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator for the last 7 days.

Team Fortress 2 inventories collect stacks of the same items: cosmetic cases from past events, war paint cases, paint cans, name tags and a pile of robot parts. Steam's sell dialog makes you list each one separately. Steam's Multisell page lists many items at once, and Steam Bulk Sell builds that link from your public inventory.

How the Team Fortress 2 market works

The Team Fortress 2 market is the part of the Steam Community Market that lists items from Team Fortress 2 (Steam app 440). You can browse it directly at steamcommunity.com/market/search?appid=440. Each item has its own Market page showing current sell listings and buy orders.

Many TF2 cosmetics and weapons aren't commodities, so they can't go into a bulk listing. The items that stack (cases, paints, tools and tags) are where Multisell saves the most time.

When you sell, you set the price you want to receive and Steam adds its fees on top. For Team Fortress 2 you keep about 87% of what the buyer pays, because Steam's 5% transaction fee and the 10% game fee are both added on top of your price (Market FAQ). Our Steam inventory value guide shows how to turn Market prices into a realistic total for your inventory.

Which TF2 items work with Multisell

Multisell only takes commodity items, which Steam's Market FAQ describes as items where "all the items are identical, and can be traded interchangeably". In TF2 that covers most of the crate, key, tool and supply items. It doesn't cover hats and weapons with individual properties (unusual effects, custom names, killstreak combinations and so on), which still list one at a time.

Here's what our TF2 catalog has recorded:

TF2 items that aren't commodities

We checked the TF2 Market through Steam's own Community Market search on October 26, 2026. It listed 44,285 Team Fortress 2 items.

SampleCommoditiesWhat it contained
The 10 most popular items7 of 10Mann Co. Supply Crate Key, Tour of Duty Ticket, Haunted Hoard Key, Ghoulish Gains Case, Name Tag, Robo Community Crate Series #58 and Haunted Hoard Case were commodities. Secret Saxton, Giftapult and Strange Phobos Filter weren't.
10 items at each of four points in the A–Z list (40 total)0 of 40Decorated and war-painted weapons with a wear level, such as "Fire Glazed Flame Thrower (Field-Tested)", "Piña Polished Shahanshah (Factory New)" and "Strange Die'n Dasher War Paint (Battle Scarred)"

So the commodities are concentrated among the most-traded items: keys, cases, tickets and tools. Most of the long tail of TF2 listings are decorated weapons and war paints that come in Factory New, Minimal Wear, Field-Tested, Well-Worn and Battle Scarred exteriors, all five of which appeared in our sample. Like CS2 skins, those are non-commodities. Each one has to be listed on its own from your inventory's sell dialog, and Multisell won't accept them.

Some items with a familiar name aren't commodities either. In our sample, "Giftapult" was typed "Level 5 Tool", the same level as the Mann Co. Supply Crate Key, but Steam didn't flag it as a commodity. Check the item in the TF2 builder. It only lists items Steam reports as commodities.

Step by step

  1. Check you can sell. Steam requires a purchase older than 7 days (but not older than a year) and Steam Guard enabled for 15 days. Full list: Market selling requirements.
  2. Make your TF2 inventory public (how).
  3. Open the TF2 Multisell builder, paste your profile URL, custom URL name or SteamID64, and click Load inventory.
  4. Select the commodities you want to list. Quantities come from your inventory.
  5. Open the link while signed in to Steam. Steam's Multisell page opens for app 440.
  6. Price each item, submit and confirm in the Steam Mobile App if you use the authenticator.

Batching TF2 items sensibly

TF2 inventories tend to be wide: many different items, a few of each. Some ways to keep a big Multisell batch under control:

  • Group by family. Cases and their matching keys, then paints, then robot parts, then tools. Similar items have similar prices, which makes mistakes easier to spot.
  • Watch the low end. Many old crates and munitions sell for very little. Steam's 5% transaction fee has a $0.01 minimum, so below about $0.20 the minimum fee is more than 5% of the price. Bundle these into one quick batch, or skip them.
  • Price keys carefully. Keys usually cost more than the crates and cases they open, so a pricing mistake on a key costs more. Check the current buy orders on the item's Market page (linked from the TF2 page) rather than reusing an old price.

Using buy orders to price

TF2 commodities sell through buy orders: buyers name a price, and the oldest of the cheapest listings fills it. Steam's Market FAQ puts the trade-off plainly: you "can choose if you want to do a lower price to sell immediately; or go for a higher price and wait". Price at the top buy order for a quick sale, or above it if you're happy to wait.

The TF2 fee

TF2 is one of the games with its own Market fee. Per Steam's Market FAQ:

  • the Steam Transaction Fee is 5% (minimum $0.01), and the FAQ says the buyer pays it;
  • the Team Fortress 2 Fee "is a game specific fee that is determined and collected by the game publisher", currently 10%.

Steam's sell page shows the amounts before you confirm. For more, see Steam Market fees and holds explained.

Holds and restrictions

  • Market holds: without the Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator for at least the last 7 days, the items you list can be held for up to 15 days before they appear on the Market (Holds FAQ).
  • Recent purchases: items bought in-game (for example from the Mann Co. Store) or on the Market aren't marketable until the date shown on the item in your inventory (Restrictions FAQ).
  • New device: if you sign in on a new device with email Steam Guard, you can't use the Market from that device for 7 days, unless you've had the Mobile Authenticator for at least 7 days.

After the sale

Proceeds go to your Steam Wallet and can't be withdrawn to a bank. Steam caps wallet balances at $2000, and you can't create a listing that would take your balance plus the sale price over that cap. If you're clearing out a big backpack, spend some balance between batches.

Troubleshooting

  • A hat or weapon isn't listed. It probably isn't a commodity. Sell it with Steam's normal one-at-a-time dialog.
  • A crate shows a different series than you expected. Each series is its own Market item, so the builder shows the exact name from your inventory.
  • Nothing loads. Make the inventory public and give Steam a minute to apply the change.

Open the Team Fortress 2 Multisell builder, load your backpack and list your cases, keys and tools in one batch.
